Jagathy recovering well post surgery

Jagathy Sreekumar was recovering well after he underwent surgery lasting more than seven hours to fix his injured hip, thighs and shoulder bones, doctors said Wednesday.

The 62-year-old is being treated at the MIMS Hospital here and the surgery took place Tuesday. He was seriously injured in a road accident Saturday.

"The surgery went off well and he is recovering well and we expect that he will be off the ventilator later in the day (Wednesday)," P.P. Venugopal from the hospital told reporters.

Jagathy was injured in the early hours of Saturday near the Kozhikode University campus when his Innova car hit a divider. The driver of the car escaped with minor injuries.

The actor, who has acted in more than 1,000 Malayalam films, was on his way from Thrissur to Coorg in Karnataka for director Lenin Rajendran's latest film.

More than a dozen Malayalam films at various stages of production will be affected due to the comedian's accident.
