Prediction came true to
the T as '2 States' opened to 50%-60% occupancy at multiplexes on its opening
day. Well, that was good enough for the Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar
production to register a very good first day total, which only paved the way for
consistent footfalls on Saturday and Sunday. As a result, the film's opening
weekend stands around the 38 crore mark which is simply superb. For '2 States',
which has a three film old hero (Arjun Kapoor) and a two film old heroine (Alia
Bhatt), these are indeed fantastic results.
Box Office Collection
First Day (18
April) -
12.42 Cr the 3rd highest opening in year 2014
Second Day (19
April) -
11.5 Cr
Third Day (20
April) -
14.92 Cr (Estimated)
As a result, director
Abhishek Varman is now all set to be the newest entrant in the 50 crore club
and it would be interesting to see how much further does the film travel now.
The reviews as well as word of mouth range from above average to very good which
means the film would enjoy patronage from audience for next few days at the
least. Currently it is next only to 'Jai Ho' and 'Gunday' as far as opening is
concerned and in terms of the lifetime total, it would be in the third position
soon as well by edging past 62 crore total of 'Queen'.
For Sajid Nadiadwala as
well as Karan Johar, this is a much welcome money spinner. On the other hand it
is an interesting phase for the industry too where newer entrants like Ranveer
Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Parineeti Chopra, Sidharth
Malhotra and Sunny Leone are finding audience for themselves with Kangna seeing
a resurgence too.
'Dekh Tamasha Dekh' was
the other release of the week and found a niche release for itself. The number
of shows was restricted too and though the film fetched some good reviews, the
collections weren't notable. Third release of the week was 'Lucky Kabootar',
which after quite a few unlucky delays, saw a poor release with zero promotion,
buzz and hype, hence getting lost in oblivion.
