Romeo And Juliets - Movie Review

Stylish Star Allu Arjun is the only non-Malayalam actor, who has got huge fan following in Kerala. And almost all his previous Telugu movies have become a hit at the Mollywood Box Office. The actor is now back to rock the viewers with Romeo And Juliets, which is the dubbed version of his much-talked about and highly anticipated Telugu movie Iddarammayilatho.

Directed by Puri Jagannath, Romeo And Juliets is a romantic action movie with all other commercial elements to rock the masses. Allu Arjun's stylish looks and performance are the main attraction in the film. Puri's arresting screenplay, Devi Sri Prasad's trendy music and background score, Amol Rathod's wonderful picturisation, Ganesh Acharya's unique dance moves, Kaeche Kampakdee's amazing stunts and action, Catherine Tresa's glamour, and Brahmanandam and Ali's comedy are its other highlights. The convincing comedy scenes and dragging narrations are its biggest drawbacks.
There is nothing much to boast about the story of Romeo And Juliets and it is no different from the previous films of Puri Jagannath, who always runs the show on masala elements, rather than having a wonderful story with some brilliant theme. The first half of the film is interesting with all masala stuff and the story gains momentum at the interval bang. But the pace of narration goes slow in the second half and it once again picks up momentum with the twist in the climax.
Sanju Reddy (Allu Arjun) is the lead guitarist of a Spain-based band comprising of four others (Srinivasa Reddy, Khayyum and two girls). Akanksha (Catherine Tresa), the daughter of Union Minister (Rao Ramesh), heads for her higher studies to Spain, where she finds a diary that chronicles the love story of Sanju and Komali Sankarabharanam (Amala Paul). She instantly gets attached to these two characters.

Romeo And Juliets story

But the diary ends abruptly without a climax to the love story. So Akanksha sets out to find out what happened next and meets Sanju. After knowing some tragic facts about Komali, she falls in love with him and proposes him. At this juncture, the story takes one more twist, which should be watched on screen.

Allu Arjun's Performance

As lead guitarist, Allu Arjun will surely rock the audience. He is at complete ease in all action, dance and sentimental sequences. With this movie, he is definitely setting a new style statement and his dresses, shoes, glasses, bike and other accessories are sure to become a new trend among the young film goers.

Amala Paul's Performance

Amala Paul has got good scope for her role as a traditional Brahmin girl and she has delivered a convincing performance as a shy and timid girl. Her chemistry with Allu Arjun is one of the main highlights in the film.

Romeo And Juliets

Catherine Tresa's glamour is one of the big assets of the film. She drives youngsters crazy with sexy costumes and skin show. Her chemistry with Allu Arjun has also come out very well.

Romeo And Juliets

Brahmanandam and Ali's comedy sequences are also sure to tickle the funny bones of the film goers, but they are illogical and not very convincing. Others like Srinivasa Reddy, Khayyum, Nazar, Rao Ramesh, Subbaraju, Kaajal Vasisht, Devsri Khanduri have done justice to their respective roles.

Devi Sri Prasad's Music

Romeo And Juliets has rich production values and Devi Sri Prasad's music and background score are main highlights in the technical front. All his compositions are trendy and good to listen. They have already won the heart of youngsters. But the placement of a few songs is not up to the mark.

Amol Rathod's Camera Work

Bollywood cinematographer Amol Rathod's camera work is another big attraction in the technical front. He has captured some of the best locales of Spain in songs like 'Run Run', 'Violin Song' and 'Top Lechipoddi'.

Kaeche Kampakdee's Action

Romeo And Juliets has a few amazing action and stunt scenes and Hollywood stunt master Kaeche Kampakdee, who has earlier worked on action movies like Blood Sport 2, Ong Bak 2 and Sanctuary, has directed Allu Arjun's fights. They are also big strengths for the film.

Other Technical Departments

Usually, Puri Jagannath's films will have lot of punch dialogues and funny-oneliners, this movie also has few, but not in that big number. Sekkhar's editing is good, but he could have made the narration crispy and interesting by trimming few scenes in the second half. Brahma Kadali's art work is also good asset to the film.

Romeo And Juliets - Verdict

Verdit: Overall, Romeo And Juliets is a good masala entertainer, but it lacks Allu Arjun's heroism and Puri Jagannath's usual flavour. It is a must watch movie of Allu Arjun fans.
